I have only used this backpack for one 10-mile backpacking trip so far so I don't have a lot of experience with it yet, but I think it is an excellent pack. It can hold a lot of gear so I will have to be careful not to overload it with more than I can carry, but I wanted a large pack so I can go winter camping and carry extra clothes. The adjustment system seems to work very well and the multiple external pockets make it easy to organize and find things. I think the external water bottle pock...ets could be improved. I think the mesh might snag on a branch and tear and my water bottle has fallen out of the pocket when taking the pack off. I don't think that's enough of a reason to mark the pack down one star though. As far as the colors go, I don't understand why some folks are complaining about them. Both the green color which I got and the blue color are very attractive IMHO. If people don't like a colorful pack, they can always get the black one. I would recommend this pack to anyone looking for a large, high quality pack at a good price.
Redcloud 90 is superb...and so is Kelty's service!

Excellent product. The same high quality as my old (20-plus years old) Kelty Bigfoot 5200 cubic inch backpack. The 90 is approximately 5500 cubic inches, more then enough for any backpacking/travel needs. I recently used it on a flight from the U.S. to Asia...it held a LOT, and came through looking like brand-new (which, considering the way airline baggage people, not to mention the TSA bozos, handle baggage, is short of a miracle). The Kelty staff is knowledgeable and extremely helpful. I hi...ghly recommend Kelty products...'wouldn't hesitate to purchase another item, from their website (as I did), or in-store. Great job, Kelty!
When you're heading out for multiple days on the trail or in the backcountry, the Kelty Red Cloud 90 Internal Pack hauls everything you need to make the trip great. Featuring the advanced Perfect-FIT suspension system, you can easily adjust the fit with the integrated adjustment system while wearing the pack. The shoulder straps and hip belt are engineered specifically for a man's shape to give you a close-fitting pack that doesn't hamper your movements. The top-loading design also features a removable lid that converts into a sling pack, and you have front panel access to all your gear. A stretchy front shove-it pocket lets you stash a layer when the temperatures start to heat up, and plenty of other pockets keep all your gear organized, like zippered side pockets and a large front pocket with organization. You can lash on your extra gear with the 2 hide-away ice axe loops and stash snacks close at hand in the hip belt pockets. The Kelty Red Cloud 90 Internal Pack gives you the most comfortable fit with a ventilating spacer mesh back panel, a lumbar support, and spacer mesh shoulder straps, waist belt, and lumbar region. Stabilize your load and center it exactly where you want it with the load-lifter straps, belt stabilizer straps, and sternum strap. Finally, the Kelty Red Cloud 90 Internal Pack has a sleeping bag compartment and is hydration compatible, so you can stay hydrated on those long day hikes through the backcountry.

I have carried up to 45lbs in mine, but I have no doubt it could carry 80 or 90lbs, ... not that I would ever want to.
This is a very durable and well made pack and it is very comfortable when properly adjusted.

This pack fits a ton. I have gone on two trips with it, each time with about 46lbs of stuff and still room for some more. As far as max load, I'm not sure but with that much weight it performed with no problems and was still comfortable.

I packed mine full plus strapped on a 20 lb. tent and hiked about two miles into my camp site. I'm gonna estimate I was around 55 lbs total on my pack. It was much heavier than I care to be when backpacking but it was a special circumstance and I made an exception...plus we made a lot of stops for rest! The pack did great.

A lot. Whatever you can fit in it. I would estimate 60-70 lbs. I highly recommend this pack!

I had 65 lbs in easily.

Does the kelty red cloud 90 have space behind each water bottle pocket? this would maybe carry trekking poles or tent poles
Jessica S
There is not a dedicated compartment for trekking poles or tent poles. You can use the upper and lower side compression straps to hold the trekking poles by threading the poles through the compression straps.
