Nice tarp/shelter

By Dryrock

Nice tarp/shelter. If you need a tarp to use for sun/rain shelter when eating, well away from your tent in bear prone areas, this is a good product. It is a little heavier than a cheap plastic tarp, but it holds up to repeated folding withouting the plastic coating de-laminating. It sheds the rain and the sun. It is easy to pitch and its shape means that you can pitch it in many dif ways as needed.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  is the size 16 feet?
Steve L  It is 10ft x 9ft x 3ft
GRACE L  Can this be used on the beach, with sand bags to help hold down the tarp?
Sunny S  Hi Grace, Yes, it can be used with sand bags.
CHRIS K  Yes, it would work with sand bags. I use snow stakes. The advantage of sand bags is that you could pull them to tension the line through the day. I’m pretty good with knots, so I use friction knots, but they aren’t always easy to tension in stiff winds. I use 4 of the Kelty poles and it’s an awesome beach set up. I live at the beach an I’ve destroyed other setups, like the pop up canopy’s. I think this is a better option. You need to dry run your setup on a calm day in your yard. After a couple of dry runs, you’ll be able to set up the tarp and 4 poles at the beach by yourself in about 10 minutes.
CHRIS K  I used it on the beach this past weekend and it worked great, even when we were getting 30mph winds. I used snow stakes but sand bags would work well and would be a little earlier to adjust tension. Consider getting some cheap tent springs to attach to the guy lines. It’s not crucial, but will help absorb shock when you get wind bursts.
CHRIS K  Yes, sand bags will work and the tarp is definitely hardy enough for stiff winds. I personally prefer using snow stakes. If you dig a little bit of a hole, then drive in the snow stakes, it will hold very well even in stiff winds. I prefer using 4 Kelly poles one each of the 4 corners, but you could use 2 just fine. If you want to get fancy, add some tent springs to your guy lines to absorb some of the shock of quick wind bursts.
hosoe t  What is 2010 model? What colors are white?
S. G  The complete tarp is creme / gray. Some call it gray, some creme. Bright, yet not disturbing in the woods, looks like a bird in flight.
RANDY B  The Kelty Noah's Tarp 9... that I bought in spring of 2009, is a light putty gray color and the "Noah's Tarp Logo" is black. I think the current model is a light putty gray with orange accent color, instead of black. I have used it on about 25 - 30 occasions. This is a durable yet lightweight item and I continue to be well satisfied.
MARION K  I have the 2009 model - can't imagine it changed much. I use mine when I kayak camp as it packs small and extends my tiny bivy-tent into a good sized shelter from weather. I sat under it for three days when rained in on an island.
