STEVEN H Well, it depends on one's view of "cups". I think the "official" answer is twelve, like modern drip makers. I can get four good-sized coffee mugs out of a pot---or at least three-and-change; say 8-10 oz cups. But I risk filling it rather to the top. If one fills it more conservatively---and one ought if not experienced with percolating coffee makers---then I think three good cups would be a safe bet. I quite like this sturdy pot. I'm not pleased with the stem and basket---they are too lightly built for me---but replacements are not difficult to find at an antique or second-hand store, and they DO work. I cut down drip filters to work in the basket and also the Malita type, and had no more spill-over than a drip maker would give. Someone still makes disc filters, I'm sure. Makes four solid cups of coffee with no electrical load.

stacie d Hi~ I bought this for camping, it was completely black with soot by the end of the trip and it all washed off easily with soap and a soft scrubber. It would easily work on a stove top. Great old school coffee maker!

MARGE P Yes this percolator coffee maker can be used on the stove. Your coffee liner along with coffee granules get put into the 2 piece basket and closed up with the basket lid on top. This basket assembly gets put onto the hollow stem plate which is enclosed into the pot to heat. The stem has an ring manufactured onto it to keep the basket up top and out of the water. Keep your water below assembly for the perk effect to drip. Once the water boils it then goes up the internal hollow stem,perks and flows down onto the lid and seeps down through the granules and your personal preference will allow you to see the color of the coffee percolating and when to remove from low heat. The liners (separate cheap purchase) comes square with holes pre-punched in the center and edging for the folding lapping method inside the basket to cover the granules....unless you like coffee granules in your coffee. Clean up is simple,remove the basket lid and dump the liner with used granules,quick rinse and put up till next use.

LYNN P Yes! This product can be used on a stove top. We also use it on our wood stove for those times when we lose power or just want to go 'rustic'.. It's made out of what I like to call 'camping steel'. It's not steel, but it's not tin either.

CAROLYN J I don't know what the metal is but it is heavy enough and is satisfactory -- and yes, it can be used directly on the stove top. (My stovetop is electric.) Just don't turn on the stove, forget it, and let it boil dry - or the clear plastic piece on the top will MELT! (It would be so much better if it was made of glass instead of plastic!) I liked this coffee pot very much and used it every day - until I forgot to set the timer one day and melted that top piece. I couldn't find a replacement for it and had to trash the whole coffee pot. I would purchase this pot again if the top was glass --or if I thought I could always remember to turn off the stove when I should. :-) Hope this helps.

ELIZABETH D I've used this coffee pot on electric, gas and also propane stoves. Don't know the metal content of the pot but it is sturdy and easy to clean with the enamel finish.
