This is a simple device that weighs next to nothing! You simply give it a twist to turn it on or off. While not terribly bright compared to xenon strobes, it is bright enough to be seen for a couple of miles on the ground in open terrain (personally tested and verified). From the air, it should be easily visible for quite a few miles as long as it isn't masked by the canopy or competing with city or highway lights.

For me, this is cheap insurance on hikes and treks. At one ounce, you can afford to carry this little gem.
