Very dry and sturdy in storms

By Old P.

Exceeded my expectations, even for Coleman products. I've used this tent three times now and it's the sturdiest, driest, and quietest tent in a 40 mph thunderstorm that I've ever used in 60 years of camping and backpacking. Highly recommended as a 1 person tent if you are over 6'2", as I am. But I did shelter a 12 year old grandson during one storm and it was okay.

Ready for any weather

By johnG

I've had my Hooligan 2 for 8 years now. I camp out an average of 30 -40 nights a year. This tent just laughs at bad weather. I've been through some wild downpours and windy thunderstorms and have never had an issue. I came back to the site because I'm looking for a second one to replace my old leaky backup tent.

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Is this tent easy to set up by yourself? I realize it is not freestanding, which is fine. I just don't want to have problems putting it up. I have never set up a single-pole design tent...
RUTH B  I'm her husband who purchased and use the tent. If you stake it out as instructed along the bottom it goes up ok. ridge pole a little snug to slip into final place.
KEVIN K  Tent is very easy to set up and have always set up alone. It's a little heavy, but for the money I still consider it a good buy.
TIM W  It takes a bit of coordination but it's very doable alone
SPENCER H  Yes, it is easy to set up. It is also large, extremely well-made, and waterproof. My only gripes are the single-pole design, which makes it near impossible to use on dry, packed, or rocky ground, and that the tent is really heavy and should not in any way be considered a 'backpacking tent'.
SHEILA K  It is very easy to set up by-yourself. We bought another one and we have to fight our son on his boyscout outings on who gets to use them. We own 8 different tents and these are our two favorites. Great product for a low price.
RICHARD S  I think it's pretty easy,of course with any thing practice makes perfect
Shopper  What are the dimensions of the tent footprint?
TIM W  the footprint is 8ft x 6ft
BROOKS H  8 foot x 6 foot from the Coleman website.
SPENCER H  I'm not currently at home but it's huge, about 8'x6'. But more importantly the tent is heavy and doesn't stand freely without stakes. Not a good backpacking tent. On the plus side it's almost 100% mesh to stay cool in the summer and the floor is tough and waterproof, so no groundcloth necessary. If you need exact measurements let me know and I'll use a measuring tape when I get home.
Shopper  How is this tent in cold weather and in the rain?
SunnySports S  This is great in the rain, but for cold weather (winter/ late fall) I wouldn't recommend it. Stay safe and have fun out there! Neal
