This is a good backpack for a long day hike up to multi-day hikes. I use this pack for summer hikes up to 5 days. I can fit all my gear and food for just under a week. If you hike in western states that you need bear proof storage you will want to get a smaller bear canister like the - Bear Vault Solo which is 8 inches high as oposed to the regular backpack canisters that 12-13 inches high. The smaller canister fits easier. for a 5 day trip I have a total pack load of 32-35 lbs. this pack handles that load just fine.

I have avoided getting a water bladder for years because they are a pain to clean and dry. Finally I wore out my old Quest Mr. Soul and had to replace it. This coincided with me getting dehydrated on a hike because I didn't want to take the pack off to get more water. I researched and got the camelback vantage because it had room for gear and I liked the top loading. The water bottle packets on the sides are great for carrying water for my Husky when she hikes with me.
I used it the first time on a slickrock hike in Utah and it was stable during the scrambling over rock. The spring loaded back panel feels odd at first but quickly becomes unnoticeable. My only complaint is that I am right at the end of the torso size it works for and had to do a lot of tweaking of the fit. I knew that going in though so it in no way detracts from the pack. Bought a camelback for my daughter for this trip also and both were half the price at SunnySports as opposed to retailers in town.

This is a very versatile back pack. I have used it for day hikes but it is roomy enough to probably do some minimalist over nights! Very pleased with this pack!
