Shopper Is the camelbak montara for kids as well?
DAVE H There's no reason kids could not use it. Bear in mind that 45 ounces of water weighs - 45 ounces. That's nearly three pounds. Even as an adult, having 3 pounds flopping about behind me, held by a waist-strap, was a bit much, and I have switched to using backpack style hydration packs. A small child might be more bothered by the sheer weight than an adult, but taht would be it.
Bear in mind that if the kid's going to be active for only a few hours and it's not 100 degrees, merely hydrating properly before the activity is usually adequate.
STEVEN T Is it for kids? No. Hydration is only for adults and loyal dogs.
MICHAEL B With the Montara pack cinched down at all points, it should fit snugly on most kid's 8+ years.
DANIEL K It will work for kids, just alittle bulky for them. My 9 yr old uses mine occasionally.
MICHAEL M The belt can be adjusted so that children can wear it, the only concern I would have is if the pack was filled that it would make the child get off balance easily during quick movements. The fact that it is carried on the waist is better for weight transfer and balance than the hand carried or backpack type hydration packs. I run the Chicago Marathon and I always use the Montara on training runs, sometimes during the Marathon. Since it is worn around the waist I don't feel the weight and the design of the pack fits well and securely stays in place. It is comfortable to wear. It has a long tube that can be run up to a shoulder location and clipped to your shirt or coiled around the reservoir (to reduce length) and clipped to the belt. Either way it is a convenient way to hydrate without having to hold anything. As the reservoir empties you can adjust straps on the pack to tighten the fit and reduce the sloshing of liquid. The best thing about the pack is that you can drink with exercising. No worry about spilling liquids or leaking bottles. I would recommend you try it on before purchase. My wife has tried to run with it and says that it rides up her waist. Each person is different, but it may be more of a fit question for women. Many of the runners I train with have purchased the Montara after seeing how nice it is to run with. You'll never want to carry another bottle after you try it.
EVOLUTIONARY O It would work, but it holds a fair amount of water so is a bit heavy. Depends on how old the kid is. A teenager, sure, a pre-teen, maybe a bit heavy.
GARY E I would say it depends on the kids' waist size and how snug you want it to be. I have a 30 or 31 inch waist and I have the straps tightened about as far as they'll go. But that is because I use it for running long distances and I don't like it bouncing all over the place. So, it could work, I think. You decide. I really like the pack and its features.
SHEM C Depends on how big your kid is. I'd say 8-10 years old and up yes.
