Comments about North Face The North Face Double Headed Toad 44 Three-season Tent:
I spent a lot o time doing my research before choosing the Double Headed Toad 44. My last tent was a Tatonka 2P that I got in Germany many years ago. The Tatonka was a GREAT tent, well built, sturdy etc, but was too small for me and my two little boys (It was great for me and my wife!). I needed something bigger but i didn´t want to loose one inch in the quality of my Tatonka.
At first I thought that I wanted a 3 person tent, but after reading a lot of tent reviews, I realised that what makers call a "3P tent" is actually a 2P tent (at least if you want a minimun of confort). In the 4P range you wont find a lot of options and therefore choosing the Toad 44, backed by the NorthFace brand name, and good reviews, was a easy choice.
The tent is HUGE! Trust me. If you are used to a 2P tent you will not believe it when you first assembly the tent. The tent is very well done. Poles are sturdy. Assembly is straight forward (4 minutes in my first attempt). I can say that it holds 3 adults with a lot of confort. 4 Adults? I really don´t think so, unless you guys are more than just good friends! :)
The biggest downside has been already reported by other uses, and is about the weight of the tent. It is quite heavy. If you are planning to go backpacking, hiking etc you will definetely need to split the weight among your friends. Two other things that I missed in this tent are vents and a weather inspection window, already common place in other tents of the same range.
Alltogether the tent is beautifull and I am quite glad with my choice. My boys LOVED it! Can´t wait to see how it will hold up in the upcoming years.
