Brand: Eureka
Located in: Essential Equipment, Tents
The Eureka! Grand Manan incorporates a new concept in tent design providing moreuseable floor space. The lower portion (the bottom 12") of the walls is straight, eliminating the unusable space where the walls meet with the floor, maximizing the floor area. Additionally, the sides of the fly roll up from the ground for optimal airflow through the tent. The Grand Manan is a dome tent withfiberglass poles and two D-shaped doors, and has outdoor vestibules for shoe andgear storage.

Comments about Eureka Eureka Grand Manan 9 Tent:

Let me start by justifying my listed "cons". HEAVY: well, it's 21 lbs. 7 oz. - what do you expect? DIFFICULT TO SETUP: I did it by myself - so, yeah, it was a little difficult. Since I was car camping for this test, the weight wasn't an issue. And, I'm certain that if I had someone there to help me set it up, it would've been no problem at all. I got it for car camping with 2 or more people anyway. So, please understand, the "cons" are ONLY due to me going at it solo.

The weekend after I got this tent I just HAD to try it out. Now, this is a 3-season tent. But, I tested it in 25 to 35 degree F conditions with heavy wind, rain, sleet and snow. Granted, I had a mummy bag rated for 20F, and I could see my breath in the tent the entire night. But, I seriously doubt Eureka intended for it to be used during winter - hence, it being classified as a 3-season tent.

WATERPROOF: Absolutely. Not a drop got in. WINDPROOF: The fly is like a drum - nice and tight. There was hardly any flexing in the material at all and I couldn't feel any sort of draft through the material, no matter how hard the wind blew. FLY WORKS WELL: It's waterproof and windproof. What more do you want? STURDY: The poles are FAT - 12.7mm fiberglass. The materials can be drawn tight. And, there are plently of stake-down and guy-out points. Oh, yeah, it's sturdy. COMFORTABLE: It seriously has room to 5 fairly easily - 4 would be no problem at all. I mean, you can fit 2 full-size air mattresses in this thing and still have 2'10" x 9' of floor space for gear! And, there is plenty of ventilation in the tent itself and in the fly.

BOTTOM LINE: This is one SERIOUS car camping family tent. There are numerous configurations for the fly to open up on the sides with the vestibules and doors. The fly can even be rolled up on the sides with the windows. I could just keep going on about it. It really is just one sweet tent!

Comments about Eureka Eureka Grand Manan 9 Tent:

I bought this tent to use primarily on Boy Scout campouts as an adult leader. This is a very well engineered tent with plenty of innovative features. Plenty of room & storage pockets. Very versatile with many possible configurations of the rainfly & venting. This tent would be perfect except for the slight difficulty in threading the tent poles into the pockets. Easy to set up with two people but a little difficult for one. This would be a perfect tent if it used clips instead of sleeves for the poles. I understand this is a better tent with the sleeves but clips would allow for much faster & easier set up with one person. Not a deal killer. I highly recommend this tent.

Comments about Eureka Eureka Grand Manan 9 Tent:

My needs were: 2-pole easy set up and a 6' center height. This tent has that and so much more! I bought this for me and my husband to use while car camping. We use cots now and the sides of this tent are perfect for that with the first 3' going straight up; no wasted corner space and no waking up with the wall hovering over your face.

The Grand Manan also has GREAT airflow. Even with the tent sitting in full sun for part of the day, it was still bearable to go inside and nap with the fly rolled up to expose the windows. (Yes, we're casual/lazy campers.) The peak has vent openings to really improve airflow and heat escape and you can close them up anytime.

I also loved the way the rainfly can be staked out 3-4' from the front and rear doors. We rolled back part of each flap depending on where the sun was and it worked great. My only wish is that there was a "Guide for Idiots" to show what some of the toggles and loops were for. Even though the tent and rainfly are easy to set up, there are so many configurations for the fly that we couldn't figure out what a couple of the toggles and loops were for, lol.

I would highly recommend this tent to anyone who loves car camping. Roomy and plenty of headroom with the best airflow of any tent I've ever owned.

Comments about Eureka Eureka Grand Manan 9 Tent:

I recently purchased this tent for my family of three as a car camping tent. I decided to purchase the Grand Manan 9 based on its size and the fact it had a full rain fly. Used it over the Fourth of July weekend and it did not disappoint. This tent has ample room for five adults. The vestibules are HUGE with enough space to keep all your gear (if you decide to keep it outside instead of in the tent). The true test was the day and a half of hard rain we had. The tent did not leak one bit. Another nice feature is the rain fly rolls up above the windows for those of us who like to use the rain fly even when the weatherman says it's not going to rain. The only concern I have is with the tent poles. The poles are heavy duty but the shock cord used to join them is not. I think if you follow the directions and don't drop the poles on end you will have many years of dry camping ahead of you.
