Comments about Kelty Kelty Yukon 2900 External Pack - Woods Green:
Bought for my son for Boy Scouts. He is 11 and 5' tall. Fit good. Made 11 miles with a 27lb pack weight (too much weight for the boy, but not too much for the pack). Only problem was the chest strap pops off the attachment on the shoulder strap. Plan to fix this with a longer nylon strap that loops around the shoulder strap.

This was the ideal product for my Boy Scout son who is always outgrowing everything in short order. The expandable frame is ideal to allow him to use the pack for many years. I am very happy with the same excellent quality that I have seen in other Kelty products.

Comments about Kelty Kelty Yukon 2900 External Pack - Woods Green:
I bought this pack for my son to use in Boy Scouts. He's a bit under 5'. It was the previous year's model (green/charcoal) but should be the same as this one. I/we packed things that I was sure would not be used just to find out how much it would hold and was amazed at the storage capacity.
I like the external frame because you can secure additional items above and below the pack itself. Today's poly sleeping bags don't compress too well and it's no trouble to secure one below the pack and add a sleeping pad or tent above.
The top storage area in the pack itself has a metal frame that keeps the bag open for loading but will swivel flat for storage. It also has a small waterproof pocket for use with a hydration setup or for storing wet items.
The bottom section was identified for storing a sleeping bag, but only a down-type would come close to fitting.
A fairly good fabric layer separates the two compartments. It does not extend completely from side to side. Longer items can be packed upright along the sides of the pack but smaller items may fall down to the lower compartment. I don't see the latter as being an issue though.
The only improvement I would make would be additional places to attach items on the outside either to the frame itself or to the pack. Not a big thing.
Overall I'd say this is a well designed and functional pack with lots of room to grow because of its expandability.
