Brand: Black Diamond
Located in: Add-on Gear, Trekking Poles
With almost two times the fore and aft stiffness of any pole on the market, the Spire Elliptic gives unrelenting support on technical climbs and descents. Its elliptic shaft is non-rotating, offering immediate spring pin engagement with the Auto Lock Binary system, and the low-finger-pressure, high-locking-force Elliptic FlickLock allows simple mid-stride adjustments. The Spire Elliptic is built with a 15º corrective angle that keeps the wrist in a neutral position, a new streamlined dual-density top grip for control, a non-slip foam grip with lower extension for choking up on steeper terrain and 360° padded webbing. The Spire Elliptic is equipped with a Short Flex Tip and a non-snagging, low-profiletrekking basket.

Comments about Black Diamond Black Diamond Spire Elliptic Poles (pair):

I liked the poles, but the binary quick locks were not solid (they had a little "play" in them), and this made the poles noisy and maybe not as stable. However, they were quick and easy to adjust. If you don't mind a little more noise and slop then you may like them, but it was not acceptable to me. I replaced them with the Black Diamond Contour Elliptic Carbon poles, which are pricy but seem pretty good. I also tried a set of Komperdell titanals with 16/14/12 mm round shafts, and the Contour Elliptical Carbons are definitely stiffer and stronger. This was important to me because I use the poles fully extended and they loose a lot of stiffness at full extension. I believe the Carbon Ellipticals are a bit stiffer than the Spire Ellipticals, but I didn't have them at the same time so I couldn't compare directly like I did to the Komperdells.

I have been using these for about a month. They seem very stong and stable. And there nice looking I might ad. The locking system is much better than the old style poles.
