At the heart of the BlastMatch is a cus tom bar of high performance flint material. Spring loaded for compactness, the flint bar also rotates 360 degrees to help prevent uneven wear. The Blast Match performed well starting four fires. It does produce a lot of hot sparks that will start well dried tender quit easily. When I was starting my fifth fire the two plastic halves surrounding the metal steel shank simply came detached from each other and the tool fell completely apart. When the tool collapsed in my hand the fire striker was bent backwards and it being plastic was damaged. There was no practical fix. If you wrap para cord line around it or tape that will temporarily get you thru a situation but you lose the ability to fold it back into its own self contained unit. The unit didn't produce spark as well after it was damaged. I contacted Survival Technologies a week ago, but have got no response back.[...]I've owned it one year so I don't expect any help. The bottom line is that it just worked 4 times so you probably don't want to take this into a survival situation. It's something better for the back yard.
