This packs easily & will dig a shallow cat hole in forest duff or loose mud.
I haven't chanced it in clay/hard pan or to cut through turf in grasslands/meadows. For a long trip with exacting sanitation requirements, I would carry a metal trowel or at least an MSR snow stake.
