JUDI S Hi, I am a woman and my hiking boots are an 8.5 and I use the size M bug gaiters and they fit fine. I'm not really sure what determines the size since they have elastic on both ends? Perhaps if you wear the higher hiking boots you may need the larger size so the elastic on top will go around the boot, but otherwise the M should be fine. Hope this helps!
CHARLES P Your shoe size of womens 8 is equivalent to a mens size 6.

I'm guessing a small, but that would depend what you're wearing over top your shoes (i.e. gathered pants)
I found this conversion chart that should answer your question since the gaiter size is based upon men shoe size.

KEVIN B I ordered a size large for myself - I wear men's size 11 shoes. However, my wife, who wears women's size 7.5 or size 8 shoes is able to use the large Outdoor Research BugOut Gaiters with her hiking boots. I think they would be too big, however, if she wore them with a pair of hiking shoes.
Therefore, I'd suggest a size medium for a women's size 8 shoes.
