Ning X On Zappos, they have Surge and Suege M. Anyone know the difference. and is this Surge on Sunnysports the same as Surge or Surge M on Zappos? thanks
DIANE S I'm not sure of the difference but the Surge we purchased at Sunnysports back in 2007 is still used every school day.. it went from High School to College and my son still loves it.

c b I want to order the Northface Surge backpack in TNF black ($82) for my 16 year old daughter, but she is convinced this will not be the exact same one as on the Northface website for $115. Does anyone know if this is the current model on this website?
Also, she has back issues( minor scoliosis) and I am wondering if I should get the WOMENS Surge instead, perhaps because it might fit a womens back better (she is 5'6') But I am concerned that it will be much smaller inside?
Does anyone know if the womens really is better for a womans back, and is there a big difference of size inside?

SANDEEP J you can fit a 17 inch laptop in surge men's bag. The bag has lot of space. There is no difference between tns black or the one available on north face website.
DAVID N I purchased the North Face Surge backpack recently and I am very pleased with it. It feels comfortable and has very cushy padding on the back. I do beleive this is the exact model as on the North face website. I personally would not recommend the women's version for your daughter because it would probably be too small (2115cu in vs 1830cu in). Hope this information helps.
CHRIS P The back pack is the exact same. With the same concern as your daughter, I went to the North Face store and closely examined it - it's the real deal. Re size, the difference between the two is negligible (1830 vs 2015 cubic inches) which is really just 1.5" in length. Both packs hold a substantial amount. In fact, I think you'll find the women's Surge has a lot more space than many of other men's daypacks by The North Face. As far as the scoliosis issue, I'm no expert, but it seems with a 5'6" frame, she could easily handle the women's pack. If she chose the men's, just don't load it up as much (cause it holds a lot!).
MARCUS H Yes, this is the same pack that sells for $115 elsewhere. It is a great pack. My son uses it every day to carry tons of books back and forth to school...it is a great pack.
Zack W The TNF Black of the surge Daypack is the same one as sold by The North Face. The Women's version is designed to fit a female posture, but if the capacity is important then then use the Men's version. Enjoy it! Zack.

Zack W The Recon has a capacity of 1830 cu in.
The Surge has a capacity 2015 cu in.
The Heckler has a capacity 2260 cu in.

KIM A Yes, this backpack is huge, lots of pockets and zippers. Had to look through all of them to find where i placed my stuff.
Shopper is it men's backpack or girl's?
LAURA D This is more a men's pack in it's size and design. For girls I would recommend a smaller and lighter one like Angstrom 30.

DIANE S the backpack we purchased in 2007 was all black and is still being used. it transitioned with my son from high school to college. He loves it. The color you choose my determine if it's for a girl but in my opinion, a back pack is unisex.
DALE L The Surge is a very masculine backpack! Lots of room for everything you will need for the day. I have one that is three years old, the new model has even better organization pockets. I would like to get the new model, but I suspect my old one will probably out last me!

Shopper Will a 17 inch MacBook Pro fit in this bag? Most descriptions I am reading say 15 inch.
GEORGE L Yeah, a 17 inch MacBook Pro would fit. I have a 17 inch right now and it fits into the backpack with some room to spare.
CHRIS P I carry a 15" MacBook Pro with no problem at all, and I have even carried a 15" AND 13" at the same time. I have not tried a 17" since I don't own one. Having said that, comparing the dimensions of the 15" to the 17" and the space available when I have the 15" in the designated area, it looks like it will fit - but it may be snug (which could be good thing).

Aaron J On Zappos they have a women's and mens version of this backpack. I guess the straps are placed and shaped slightly different. On this site it doesn't specify the different models. Anybody have any knowledge of this?

MEGAN H I was worried about the same thing when i was looking to buy a new North Face pack. I did some research on how to find fakes. This site seemed pretty legitimate to me when i was browsing and researching. I have had my surge for about a year now and love it. I'm not an expert but I'm 99.9% sure my bag was a legitimate North Face. It had North Face tags, bar code, price tag and the logo's were all in the right place. I got the bag because I'm a nursing student and carry a heavy amount of books where ever i go. This bag has held up perfectly. All the pockets and padding are in the right spot and seem authentic. In most of the fakes I researched their isn't enough padding and the padding, pockets, and stitching fall apart. I haven't had any such problems. After all the wear i have put on mine it sill looks brand new!I would recommend this site.

Yeah I bought this bag from Sunny Sports and was surprised to find the price was so low and they shipped very fast in good packaging. I bought a Northface Surge bag from EBay at first and when I got it, it was not real but a cheap knock-off version..probably from China. In the picture, I was unable to tell. However, the one I got from Sunny Sports is the real Northface brand because the materials were not of cheap constructions, and it's just like the one from Dick's Sporting Goods, but their's is like $115. I've been using this bag for a year now for college and it looks like it'll last me awhile. When I need another bag, I'll totally buy again from Sunny Sports!!!

It reads "Sunny Sports" and if you click on the link it'll take you to the Sunny Sports website. By the way I bought this backpack from Sunny Sports last year, and it is definitely authentic. It is also the most durable backpack I've ever had.

JANEL S I just purchased the discontinued black north face surge backpack for my son who is going to college soon. It is the same size as the TNF black that is $115, 2015 cu in. The difference is in the color, not the size, and to be honest, I wasn't able to tell any difference in the discontinued black than any other black. It is a beautiful backpack. My son is extremely happy with it. His 15" laptop fits perfectly, and he was so impressed with all of the pockets and compartments. This is an exceptional backpack and a great deal. You will not be disappointed with this purchase.
ALBERT F Actually the older style is slightly larger in capacity and size measuring 20x13.5x9.5 with a capacity of 2150 cu. inches compared with the new model weighing in at 2015 cu. inches and measuring 20x13x9.5 inches. I have always found the older styles to be a little larger than the new styles don't ask me why it is just the way it is with the North Face hope this helped!
