ANDREW S I bought my TNF backpack almost five years ago and it was all black. I bought another one for my wife recently that was black and blue. My backpack has had some very heavy use and still looks and feels like new. As to colors, TNF is always adding and changing colors which can also vary from batch to batch. Colors can also vary from computer to computer. If you are concerned about color, I suggest finding the actual item in a store and viewing it in person. Bottom line is that you can't go wrong with this backpack. It has become my all time favorite.

SARA W The Recon is the best daypack I've ever owned. It's very roomy -- really holds a lot. But with the padded back and straps, and the waist and chest straps, I can strap it on so even very full with books or groceries it's comfortable and easy to carry. North Face updated the design so the little front pocket zipper is above the clip -- an improvement. The outside mesh pockets are handy (e.g. water bottles on sides), as is the grab loop on top. The organizing pockets inside the front secondary compartment are fine and logical. Pack is not waterproof, perhaps none are. It's so good, I bought another in reserve, in case it goes out of production. Have to wear out my current one first, not easy to do! Highly recommended!

TREVOR P I was looking for a bag to take on a weekend hiking trip to Havasupai Falls,AZ. I had bought the 2009 model and gave it away to a person in need last year. So I had to replace my bag and went with what I knew was reliable and comfortable.

ANDREW S I have no idea, but keep in mind that there are many shades of black just like there are many shades of other colors and TNF is probably just calling one of the blacks, TNF black. Most people will not be able to tell the difference. To further complicate the color choices TNF offers this pack in 14 different color combinations, six solid and six color combinations. (see TNF.com website).one could also call TNF customer service on the color question. A few words about TNF Recon pack. I got this pack in 2007 and since that time it has been essentially around the world by land, sea and air and has had a lot of use and still looks new. This is the best pack I have ever owened and it has really held up well. It is strong enough to safely carry a laptop in the rear compartment and large enough to use for an overnight trip. Last year, I got another one of these TNF Recon packs for my wife in blue with black trim. It is similar but not identical in features to my 2007 model as TNF is contiously updating their products. Wife also loves her pack. Bottom line. This is the best pack of it's type that you can lay your hands on at any price and if mine disappeared today, I would replace it with the same identical pack in the same color tomorrow.

BRIAN Z The model I purchased was the 2010 model, I'm pretty sure. It's not waterproof, but definitely water-resistant. Stuff inside stays dry as long as you're not out in a heavy rainstorm.

JOHNNY C The recon is somewhat waterproof and as for the model, I believe it is the 2011. I noticed that for my friends recon backpack which he had got maybe 2-3 years ago, there's the words recon on the side; however, the one I got from Sunnysports did not have that. My friends backpack also had some ugly red colored stuff inside whereas the one I bought last week has just asphalt grey and black inside. Anyways, I love this backpack ;)

STEVE A I'm not positive that my Recon Dayback is waterproof. However, I go to school in Seattle and use mine everyday, and I have never had a problem.

JOHNNY K Yes, this backpack has an adjustable chest strap as well as an adjustable waist strap. I'm not exactly sure which pictures you're referring to, but the one that I purchased is the one on the site in Zinc Grey and it looks just like the picture. Also, I bought this backpack about a year ago so I'm not exactly sure if this the latest model. You might want to check the North Face website to see if it is.

BRIDGET H Yes, it has an adjustable chest strap. Don't know what 5 pictures you are looking at but it looks just like the one picture sent with this question (except we bought a different color). We bought it in the Fall of 2010, have no idea if there is a newer model. It has been a great pack, though, holding up way better than other ones we've had.

This is the 2011 model. Just used this pack for a weekend camping trip in Havasupai Falls, AZ. Did great on a 20+ mile hike with 25lbs worth of supplies in the pack.

KEVIN M Yes, the Recon has an adjustable chest strap. It can go up and down on the sternum as well as tightening to fit you. I believe that this is the same model as the one pictured. This is the latest model. The older models had wider, heavier waist straps as well as straps on the bottom for a sleeping bag. I miss the sleeping bag strap feature but the new Recon is a phenomenal backpack.
