Questions about this item:
Shopper I will be trekking in the Impenetrable Forest in Uganda and need a day pack that is water proof and can carry some camera equipment. Am worried about its durability?
GUILLERMO G If I were you I tried with a Lowe Pro Back Pack, I think its beter and Its a Profesional Bakc pack Camera
JENNIFER L So far I have found this pack to be durable but I have only used it on one vacation, a cruise. Please note that while made of nylon, it is not waterproof. It does not have any padding on the back so you may find it uncomfortable when loaded with a lot of gear. I simply cut a piece of foam from an old sleeping pad in the shape of the back panel and inserted it in the pack. The pad provides some back padding, structure to the pack, and a sit pad if needed! If your camera gear consists of a large camera and multiple lenses then this may not be the pack for you. However, I highly recommend this pack as it only weighs about 10 ounces and it packs down small so it could always be used as an extra day pack. I think with some extra care, it should last a while. I wouldn't consider it bombproof though and it's not meant to be -- it's just a lightweight daypack. I was able to carry my back pad, a small camera, a lightweight fleece, a rain jacket, insulated water bottle, snacks, a sunhat, wallet, a small first aid kit, and other small items with no problem -- you do have to know how to pack though -- and I think the foam pad played a big part in how comfortable this ended up being. In fact, I need to buy another one of these packs for my husband and for when they decide to stop making them!
BILLY H This pack is definitely not what you are looking for. It is not waterproof nor would it be comfortable if the equipment were heavy. I bring this pack along with me in my luggage when I am traveling and pull it out when I just need a pack to use when exploring around town.
RYAN B This is a great pack. It is best for light duty and that camera equipment sounds heavy. I would recommend this bag but not for that your purpose; you might be better off with a bag with a waste belt for added support.
NANCY N I would not recommend this bag for the job. While it is waterproof, it is also very thin, filmsy, and collapses easy... similar to a plastic bag
Shopper I'm trying to decide what to get. Why did you pick this one?
BETTY B Chose this pack for two purposes. First, it had the features I wanted to supplement "one bag" international travel. When rolled up into its own pocket, this 10 oz., 19L pack is about 5.5 by 7 inches and can be tossed into a travel pack or it can be used as a "personal bag," carrying wallet, travel pillow, and other items needed for an overnight flight. When used as a "personal bag," carabiners attach it to the outside of my travel backpack allowing hands free navigation around airports. When I reach my destination, this bag can handle everything I need for the day.
I also plan to use this pack as a secondary bag for camping trips. I will gladly leave the heavier pack at "base camp" and toss my lunch, rain gear, ten essentials, and other necessities into this little guy.
Due to the ultralight fabric, I would be very reluctant to carry anything with sharp corners, nor would I attempt to carry a heavy load. Although there are a few lighter, more compressible bags on the market, this one has two features I really wanted. Not only does this pack have a zipper closure instead of a drawstring, it also has two external mesh pockets for water bottles. Lots of features for a comfortable, lightweight pack.
KYMBERLY C It is a decent size bag that folds up into a small compact pouch. It is very lightweight, you can barely feel it when you have it on.
KARIN W I picked it because it was compressable and lightweight and North face is a dependable brand. I actually didn't wind up getting it as Sunny sports sent me the wrong item and I didn't have time for them to ship me the correct one before I was travelling.
KAREN E This is the lightest backpack and easiest one to use if weight is an issue.
KATHY B It was the lightest weight and most compact I could find. I love it, perfect for daytrips or just to bring on vacation as an extra pack.
JENNIFER B I purchased this pack for hiking in Hawaii. It took up very little luggage space, is lightweight and the perfect size for short - medium hikes. Love the pack and use it all the time now.
JEFFREY Y I already had the North Face Flyweight Compressible ruck sack, and was looking for something a little more compact. I ended up using this bag all the time, as it is much better sized for single day excursions where I didn't need the extra room of the rucksack. The flyweight material feels thin, but is actually quite durable, and extremely light as the name suggests. With the bag empty, you won't even know that you're wearing it. The side water bottle pouches and external mesh dump pouch are also very handy. All around an excellent day bag.
Sue B is it rain proff?
GUILLERMO G Yes i used it in a storm in my place were every day it rains and it works great
TIMOTHY B not only is it rain proff, but it is one of the easiest and most awesome back pack I got. It saves me a lot of space in my messy room (it turns into a ball) and is suitable to take it both to school and work. Rain proff garanteed.
GREG R To be honest with you, I've not even used it but i don't think it is. It's very light wait and packs away great though. Hope this helps.
KARIN W I actually didn't end up buying it due to a shipping error.
CHRISTINE L Can't help. Used it for 10 days in Turkey without a drop of rain! Loved having it. Water bottles fit easily and it packed down to the size of a softball to fit in the luggage.
CHERYL H Honestly, I am not sure if it rain proof...haven't been in soaking rain. I will say, I carry it nearly everyday, stuffed with stuff, hang it by hook and it is sturdy. it is light and comfortable if you don't put hard stuff next to your back. A bargain too, I think. Cheryl
RYAN B No, it is water resistant so it can withstand a little, but, it will get soaked through with a lot of water.
