keith g I was wondering what size pack to get small, medium or large? I'm 5'11 and have 31" 32" waist. What's the differences between s, m, L?
ERIC S Hi Keith,
My apologize for the delayed response. I am roughly that same size. 5"11, 180 lbs and a 32"-33" waist. I purchased a L and if I did it again I would purchase a medium and even try on a small if it was possible (however, think the M would be the right fit). I found that most of the time I had the waist tightened almost all the way. The waist strap was the only part of the bag that I noticed could be smaller. The size/layout of everything else was perfect. On negative comment, I found that the stitching on the shoulder straps (device/cloth attached to the plastic piece that tightens the should straps) started to separate a bit and would be a cause of major concern if I was backpacking for a longer period of time. Part of the reason for what I though was unusual wear given the quality of North Face could be the manner in which I wore the pack at times. I traveled through SE Asia for several months and tended to let the pack hang lightly on my body because of the climate. This could of caused greater friction/tugging/pulling on the strap, so the manufacturer may not be to blame.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the pack and am totally satisfied with North Face/SunnySports. I cannot wait to get a chance to use it again!!! Now, if I can just find 3 months of free time...
LOUIS F I ordered the large pack for my wife and I. I'm 5'8" and she is 5'9". Both athletic build. The medium was ok, but the large was the best option, especially for the price and size difference. We did a 30 day backpack trip into Spain, France, Morocco, and Belgium and we had just enough room for clothes and basic supplies. We have not used it for camping yet, but it looks more than plenty for a weekend trip in the woods and be totally self-sufficient. I believe it is rated for a week of camping with tent and basic supplies anyway. This pack was great! It's very light and extremely durable. The shoulder and waist straps are adjustable and cushioned. You can also adjust the way it sits on your back by adjusting the locking system inside the harness. It has a few pockets on the outside and a has additional access points to the inside from the bottom (in the shoe compartment) and on the side. The sizes varied by a few inches in height, which varied the internal space. We went with the bigger bags since we needed more room. The woman's crestone was much smaller and did not work out. Its a great bag and Sunny Sports delivered it to my house in less than a week.
SHANE S I am 6' and weigh approx. 185lbs with a 33" waist. I purchased the Large pack and it fits me perfect. Its a really nice pack for the price.
PATRICK W I am a 6'0'' man with a 33'' waist and the medium size was just perfect for me. Unless you *really* need the extra space, I think medium would suffice for you.
JOSHUA T Y I bought a M[edium] sized pack. The label on the pack reads "M-L". I am also 5'11" and wear a 30?32" waist size, depending on the style of pant and the differences in sizing between manufacturers. The Crestone 75 is a great pack, but I should warn you that hip belt can seem a little large for the size it's advertised as. You may have to cinch the bands to their fullest extreme, not leaving you much room to go beyond that. Just a few things to consider.
MATTHEW M I think the pack size has a lot more to do with the amount it can hold than the body it will fit. This isn't always the case, but most packs are extremely customizable when it comes to fitting and adjustments.
I'm 5'11" w/ a 35" waist. A large fit me perfect and carried the gear I needed (6 days worth w/ one other person). It was comfortable and a great pack overall.
CHAD K Not sure exactly what the factory difference is, but I'm 5'9, have a large, and it works great! The ventilation on your back is awesome. Opti Fit system uses a tool to measure your torso length, and then lets you adjust the shoulder harness to fit your exact size for optimum comfort.. The pack has been thru a lot with me, both urban and in the wild. Very dependable purchase -cool color.
RICHARD D The biggest difference in size is the length
S - 30"
M - 31.5"
L - 34.5"
I bought the Large and am 6'0" with a 33" waist. The pack is very adjustable so medium or large would work. The large also has a waist belt that fits the more round so I have to adjust it quite small. The Medium, for your frame, may be a better choice.
HUIYING Z Hi, Keith
I think the large one is perfect for you. I bought it for my husband, 5'10 and 32' waist, and he loves it very much.
Good luck.
