This pack is versatile thanks to the removable summit pack. The only negative is that there is barely enough room for my shovel blade in the summit pack, and the only stable place to store my shovel handle is inside the pack - BUT I can still carry my shovel, along with probe and lots of other gear. Other than shovel storage, I absolutely love everything about it. The angled water-bottle mesh pouch is perfectly placed. There are also lots of attachment points if you need to carry extra gear. Most importantly to me, the fit is fantastic and the pack moves with me. I think it's adjustable and form-fitting enough to use for backcountry ski trips (touring for turns), and I'm sure it's great for all-season hiking trips as well.
