Shopper I read a review that stated that if a rubber tip breaks on these poles that you can't simply replace it with a new one, and that you have to buy a whole new lower shaft. Is that accurate? I want to buy an extra set of rubber tips to have as a back-up, but not if they won't work on these poles. Thanks!
JOE N The rubber tips are removable so I can't see why they cannot be replaced on their own. The rubber tips cover the hard ends of the pole. If the hard ends break then I imagine its a different story.
I have had these poles for several years with no problems.
WAYNE B I have only used them once and have never given thought to replacing the tips, so I really don't know.
JOHN S I cannot answer that question because I returned the poles because the the carbide tip of one of my poles broke off in just a few hours of use. I returned them for a refund and purchased diamondback compact poles which collapse a few inches shorter for easier packing.
TERENCE C I purchased these poles in 2009. I beat the crap out of these sticks in the Grand Canyon, Yosemite and northern California. The Devil's Path and the Appalacian Trail in NY and NJ. Snow shoeing in the Sawtooth mountains in Idaho. They are as good as when I first got them. I'm on my way to Mt. Rainier in July with my mountainsmiths. Don't worry; keep trekkin!!!
dale t I've used these poles for several years with no breakage of the tips. I did lose one to some sticky deep mud but found that a replacement tip boutgh at REI fit fine.
NOEL T T I'm pretty sure that they can be replaced. I know that REI carries replacements for these. I accidentally left the rubber tips on while in the dirt and granite backcountry and will be replacing them if I need to use them on concrete.
JERRY Z The rubber tip, about an inch long, CAN be replaced.
The bottom part of the shaft of course is an integral part and that will need to be replaced if that is broken, but AGAIN, the rubber tip is a standard diameter and simply slides on and off, facilitating easy replacement.
STANLEY F I never had to replace the rubber tips. I don't see why other tips wouldn't fit since the Moutainsmith poles are similar in size to other brands and the tips are a compression fit.
ANTHONY S Quality of the poles in general is marginal. I would not buy again and get a set of leki's on clearance at Sierra.
