I use these with an ultralight tarp which I take along on bicycle tours. They are overkill in strength but this means you can depend on them. I modified them so I can lower my tarp in a gale to three feet. Simply remove the elastic cord and remove one section. Then pinch the central tube a little for a snug fit. When the wind lessens, put it back to 5 feet and you are back in business.
