Quality Bag

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Pinole 20F Synthetic Sleeping Bag - Regular Size:
I really just wanted to add some info in regards to the bag. I'm 5'11" and 185. I use a Klymit x-frame sleeping pad which goes inside the bag. Now with me and the pad in there it is a bit snug but that just means you warm up faster. It's a quality bag for sure. I highly recommend getting a good compression sack. I was able to compress mine down to 9x10 inches. So it now fits with room to spare in the bottom compartment of my pack. Also the stuff sack it comes with doubles as a fleece pillow, very nice touch!

Great Deal, Great Bag!
By Bardamu

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first got my pinole as it was so inexpensive. I managed to get it on sale at Sunny's for just $4 more than some bag liners cost. Although it didn't have the silky fabrics, glow in the dark zipper pulls, little zippered pocket etc. that I'm used to in a bag it is still a very good looking bag. In fact, it looks like a more expensive bag than it is. And to be fair, I've never used the little pocket on my other bags and only once noticed that my zipper pull was glowing. However, it does come with a cool stuff sack that turns inside out and becomes a fleece pillow. More useful in my opinion. The weight is perfectly reasonable for a 20 degree synthetic bag. In reference to size, I am 5' 10", weigh 165 and the regular size fits me perfectly. I've not had issues with the zipper snagging as others have noted. However, when I'm zipping/unzipping any bag I always try to position a finger in front of the zipper pull to move any fabric out of the way. All zippers will snag so I always do this. The hood cinches down nicely and seemed effective at keeping the warm air in. Overall, the quality of the materials and construction seems to be top notch. My Pinole arrived a day too late to test it in temps in the mid twenties but I was able to do a night at 32 degrees in the open air with very little wind. I always use a tent except when I'm testing a new bag. I put the Pinole over a Thermarest Trail Pro and slept in an old pair of running tights, a loose fitting long sleeve t-shirt and a MH Dome Perignon cap. After laying out the bag and getting in, the first thing I noticed was the bag seemed to be warming up pretty quickly. I was cozy warm in just a few minutes and stayed that way without issue. In fact, I had to eventually take my hat off to stay comfortable. I'm hoping for some colder weather soon so I can test it into the twenties. Based upon it's performance at 32 degrees I can't imagine it wouldn't do fine at around twenty degrees assuming you're wearing the proper layers. Had I payed the full price for this bag I'd still be very pleased. But for what I paid I feel like I won the lottery. I can't speak to its long term durability, but as I mentioned before, the quality of the construction appears excellent.

Great so far

About Me Casual/ Recreational
Got this as a gift for a hiker/camper boyfriend. Haven't used yet but is exactly as pictured. He specifically commented on how light weight it is. The material feels nice/seems like it would be comfortable. We're car campers to date but plan on taking overnight hikes in the woods once I get an interlocking bag. It does seem you need to be careful of the zipper: the same silken material that makes it warm and still lightweight makes it likely to slip beneath the zipper and snag. Pull slowly and deliberately and there shouldn't be a problem. Seems like a great quality bag for the price.
