Shopper Been using generic brand nordic walking poles w/internal locking & no anti-shock for hiking/speed hiking (in pretty tough situations, aka: AT). Thought of getting "real hiking" poles from Leki also w/internal locking & no anti-shock. (Hard to find w/both, btw). But saw these. Like trigger strap innovation instead of traditional strap. What is the difference (i.e. benefit/detriment) between using these as opposed to "real hiking/trekking" poles? Also, how durable is trigger shark attachment mechanism (loop and internal on handle) on strap? Will lean on this area considerably when going downhill. My weight? 115lbs, btw. Thanks so much and love your site and products! Linda
STEVE B These are made for Nordic walking, with the point always planted at or behind the foot. The trigger strap allows you to keep a very light or no grip on the pole, so easer on your hands. The attachment mechanism seems very durable, but might not be ideal when you are putting lots of weight on the pole when you going downhill with a pack.
Mookie M Hi Linda,
I made the transition and had similar questions. Here's my experience:
Trigger strap is elegant and simple. Super easy to unhook (without looking) to grab the mail, juggle an iPod or (my favorite) pet a dog! Very sturdy IMHO, too and I'm 135lbs HEAVIER than you! Very confidence-inspiring...
Overall, when I switched from my 'generics' to these poles I laughed out loud at how much better the 'swing' felt. The build quality is rock-solid. My suggestion if you clock any reasonable amount of miles/hours, treat yourself...I believe it's a 'no regrets' purchase based upon your post!
