The aluminum leg version has mesh seat and back. It is larger in size than the steel leg version both when folded and open. This makes it easier to nap in than the steel leg version.
Both feel the same in weight. The Aluminum version is longer and wider when folded so takes a bit more room to store.
I like both versions. The steel leg is easier to manuver, the aluminum leg reclines back more comfortably. The steel leg version costs a bit less and would fit easier at a crowded public event.
Both chairs did well in the rain.

I was choosing between this and the shorter Wilderness Chair. This is a much better height for getting up from, especially if you're older. The only thing I prefer about the W.Chr is the frame at the the top of the chair back, which doubles as a solid headrest. Because of how it folds for portability, this chair lacks that frame. The W.Chr folds like any folding chair. This one collapses into a longish tube shape, with easy-to-use carrying bag. The seat height is more important to me than the headrest frame, so I would still choose this chair for my purposes. And the slot to hold a wine glass also holds my racket!

I keep a pair of GCI chairs in each of our vehicles so we're never without a chair. While comfortable, even for an all-day seminar, they aren't great beach chairs. This one is! Not as compact as the other GCI chairs (because the back is much taller) but still folds into a small bundle. But best of all, it is VERY comfortable. I look forward to taking these to the beach.

Bought this chair for my 80 yr old Mom for her pool outings as well as the beach. Though it could be a little lighter it is easy for her to carry, and she can handle the set up and pack up with no problem. The ajustable back make for great comfort. She's very happy with it.
