KAREN C Mine is adjustable up to 50" long to the end of the carabiner-type hooks. The shoulder pad is 7" (fixed, sewn to the middle of the strap). It's made of 1.5" wide nylon webbing that's strong (thicker, but a looser weave than, a seat belt strap). with substantial metal hooks. The slider on the strap to adjust length is also metal (and it doesn't slide easily, so it will hold where it's placed on the strap). I don't carry heavy very things, so not sure how much weight it will hold. Mine weighs 115g.
