Coleman 8D squarepack-away is oké!
By guide in cave
from Belgium
Comments about Coleman 8D Square Pack-Away Lantern with Remote Control:
Hello, Here I am again, the Belgium cave-guide. I bought an electric Colemanlamp. On the manual was written: this lamp burns 12 hours on one set Alkaline batteries. Because there are 8 batteries in that lamp, I was so clever to use rechargeable batteries. Now the lamp burned only about 3 hours and then in one minute he went rather suddenly out. I did not dare to go with a group tourists with such a lamp in the caves here. So I was rather unhappy with that lamp! Then I discovered very cheap alkaline batteries. Now the lamp burns even 15 hours with one set! And more. But after 15 hours you can see that the light slowly reduces. This alkaline batteries cost more, but only 26 Eurocents per hour. If you use a gasolinelamp, it will be the same price. Can everybody understand how happy I am?

We bought one of these for our Scout troop after replacing our 10th propane lantern globe of the year (Scouts can be hard on equipment...). We now own 6 of these in our troop. The lantern packs nicely by collaping into its base. This makes it very rugged for storage and transport, as well as compact. Its very nice being able to simply turn on a light at night instead of dragging out a lantern and propane and getting it assembled and lit. These lanterns have survived hundreds of miles of being bounced and jolted around in the back of a troop trailer. The light output is very good. It isn't as bright as a propane lantern, but it is more than adequate for setting up camp in the dark and for lighting the camp kitchen. The battery life has been surprising - we get 5 to 6 campouts out of a set of alkaline batteries! We have been quite pleased with these lanterns.
No 12 hours!

I used rechargeable batteries 2300mAh. The lamp gives a beautifull light, but not 12 hours, only 2,5 hours!!! With a smiling face I sweared soundles, but very heavy , while tourists were listening to my explanation in the cave. (I am guide). I swear again now.
This a phantastic lamp,

The lamp survived the transport to Belgium well! The light is bright like the gasolinelamp from Coleman (I testet it with a light meter). With a Velcrom ribbon around the lamp, I fixed the lamp when it was folded together. I use the lamp as a guide in the caves of Maastricht (Netherlands).
