JEFFREY N The hooks and bunji cords are to secure trekking poles (collapsed and not in use) to the pack. Notice on the bottom right hand side of the pack that there are two loops. The bottoms of the trekking poles are inserted into these loops and then the hook and bunji cord go around and secure the poles. Use the toggle to tighten the bunji once the poles are in place. As far as the single loop on the left hand bottom of the pack, I think it's for a larger implement, such as an ice pick, etc. but am not certain. Hope the above helps.
