Questions about this item:
brian h No where does it say that poles you are selling are the carbon fiber and not the aluminum on your page. Can you please verify that they are please?
DANIEL W Yes, these are carbon fiber poles. VERY light, but still sturdy and easy to use.

EDWARD S The poles I purchased from this page were carbon fiber.
MITSURU I They are carbon fiber just like the ones described in the Black Diamond Equipment website. Very light weight and sturdy.
MARK C This is a carbon fiber packable folding-pole. It is a 3-section Z-Pole design and features a coated inner cord, a single push-button release, a speed cone deployment, which aligns like an avalanche probe for increased rigidity, and a lightweight EVA grip.
JANE L I purchased the poles from Sunny Sports and they are definitely carbon. Here is an excerpt from the Black Diamond website product description: "... the Black Diamond Ultra Distance is a superlight, 3-season carbon-fiber pole that uses our ultra-packable folding-pole technology."
GARY J The poles I received were carbon fiber and I have been very satisfied with their performance after approx 500 miles of hiking on strenuous trails in NC including the AT.
CHRIS M These poles are the best I have ever used. Super light weight and easy to collapse. If they are the color black and blue they are carbon fiber. If they are green and grey they are aluminum. Looks like the poles above are in fact carbon fiber. Hope this helps.
ALAN C The Ultra Distance, fixed length poles are carbon pole, not aluminum. I have used them quite happily for eight months now. They are great.
JAY G Brian,
they are carbon fiber and are very light
JOHN T They are carbon fiber, and they are really nice poles.
Shopper I'm a little under 6'. Should I order 120 cm?
Robert C I am 5 foot 9 and the 120cm poles fit me a little big. If your primary use is for for hiking and climbing and secondary use is going downhill than I think they would work out good for you IMO. If you rely heavily on your poles for coming downhills they might be a little bit on the short side. Hope that helps
LUKA R I am exactly 6ft. I have the 130cm, but I mostly use them in the snow.
I have also changed the baskets, so I have very big ones for powder.
For summer use I would prefer shorter ones. I compensate with griping the handle lower down.. :) They are still great and light poles.
HENRY G I am just under 6'. I use 120. My pant inseam is about 33"
RAYFORD M I'm 5'11" and am happy with the 120cm. On flat ground they may technically be too long, but they're a good balance for going up and down hills.
VICTOR L My wife uses the 110 and she is 5'2". I use 115 and I'm 5'8". I would say that the 120s would be a little short.
MYUNG SUN K I am 5' 8" and I chose 110 cm and it fits nicely. Hope this helps!
REBEKAH T I am about 5'5" and have the 110s. They are perfect for me. My guess is that the 120s will be fine. But hold your arms at a 90 degree angle and have some one measure to the floor. That measurement will give you the size you need.
JEFF D I'm 5 9 and 120 is perfect. I'm using them right now on the PCT. A little extra length wouldn't hurt me but I wouldn't want to go shorter.
GUY S My wife is 5'8" and I am 5'11.5". We ordered a pair of 120 cm and after both trying them out decided to order another pair. They were slightly short for me and slightly long for her, but the next size up would have been too long for me. Everyone's body is a little different, but I'd recommend 120 cm.
NELSON F I am 6' 2" and the 130 cm pole is the correct length for me so I recommend you buy the 120 cm version.
MUCHOU M These are great trekking poles - super light weight, strong, short and easy to carry in luggage when traveling. Choosing the right length is somewhat based on personal preference. Experts said your adequate length of poles would keep your elbows at about right angle (90 degree) when moving on leveled ground. I am 5'10", and 120 cm fits me perfectly well. If, however, you prefer to have a lower grab of poles, 110 cm should also be fine. One small plus for 110 cm is they're even shorter when folded.
JULIE C You're right on a size cusp...this is what Black Diamond says on their sizing guide:
? For walking, hiking and backpacking (where stability and support matter most): size up if you?re right on a size cusp
? For running (where uphill propulsion matters most): size down if you?re right on a size cusp
So, if you're using these mostly for hiking and backpacking, get the 130cms. If you're using them for running, get the 120cms.
Hope this helps. I love mine!
Shopper picking right size?
DESIREE J Stand on a level floor arms at your sides and lift fore arms so elbow is at a 45 degree angle (parallel with the floor) Measure the distance from the floor to your hand. If you were using adjustable poles this is the best length for every day hiking. The Z poles come in 10 cm increments select the size that fits you or the next longest (better to go longer than shorter - think navigating downhill when more of us rely on them for balance and saving the knees, and water crossings.
JAY G I am 5' 8'" and I got the middle size, I think 110 cm. I think that is the right size for my height. Elbow should be at a 90-100 degree angle when holding the poles by the grip. When I going up steep inclines I just unlock and lower them and they work fine.
ALAN C The Black Diamond website has instructions for determining your correct size. Buy these poles. I love mine. They are fantastic!
JOHN A If over six foot get larger size if shorter probably smaller
JOHN W I purchased the 120cm size and am 6'2" tall. I hike the 93 mile Wonderland Trail last September with the poles and could not be happier with the poles and felt the 120cm size was perfect for me.
DENNIS M Poles should be such that your arms are at 90 degrees. or parrell to the ground on level ground. I am 6 foot tall and I use the 120 cm length. I do not know of anyother way other than find a store that sell them and see what fits the above criteria. Dennis Moberg Hope this helps.
KAZUO N I'm 5' 5" and 110cm works fine for me.
RON T While standing up straight, measuring the distance from your elbows to the ground should give you the correct length.
STEVE D Just like a ski pole - hold it upside down and cup your hand around the basket - your arm should be approximately 90 degrees.
CHRIS M I am 6'4 and bought the 130cm length. The size is a great fit. These poles are amazing. So lite and easy to collapse and store. 5 stars!!!
Andrea A I am not sure which size to get for someone who is 5"6"-5"7" ?
ALAN C Go to the Black Diamond website and locate the page for these poles. There is a sizing chart. If you are borderline on a size, move up to the next longer size. You will love these poles.
IAIN H I am 5"11 and bought the 120cm poles to use in the Leadville 100. Sizing was perfect. Poles were light and very easy to unfold and fold on the move. Would definitely recommend them
MICHAEL L You are right between a 110 and 120cm. I have always heard to size up so I would go with the 120cm. I am 5'9" and love the 120cm.
CHARLES W I bought the 110 for my girl friend she is 5'6" and they are perfect and she loves them.
YANG L The web site does not allow me to put link here. You can google "z-pole size pdf" to see the official sizing chart from Black Diamond.
My wife is as same tall as you. She got 110cm one.
SARA M black diamond's website has a sizing chart. it says if you're between 5'1" and 5'7" they recommend the 110cm
BEN O Sorry..."adequate reach on descents."
BEN O I would suggest 110cm which may seem a bit long on level ground, but will allow for adequate on descents.
BEAT J My girlfriend is 5'7" and uses the 120cm model, I am 6' and use the 130cm. You're probably well off with the 110 or 120cm length, if in doubt, I'd use 120cm (the grips allow you to hold the poles lower down). For running/fast hiking/downhill impact reduction especially I think the somewhat longer length is preferable.
Otherwise this is an excellent pole, which has gotten us through some very gnarly terrain without problems - really love them.
Be sure to properly tighten the pole - read the instructions (that's very easy to do).
OULA N The way to measure the proper length is to hold your elbows at 90 degrees and see where your hands end up. Guessing 110 cm. But people have different comfort positions. And going uphill and downhill will feel different. Downhill, longer will be more comfortable. Do a google search for "trekking pole length" or "how to size trekking poles" and you'll get some good ideas.
CAROL C I'm 5'8" and got the 120's. you probably will want the 110's. I had the 110's before and sold them to a shorter friend. they were just a bit too short for me, but worked okay. The 120's are a bit too long. but overall a better fit for me. It's not all about height however. they say, when you are standing holding the sticks normally on level ground, your forearm should be parallel to the ground. hope this helps.
