Comments about Black Diamond Alpine Carbon Cork Poles (pair) - 2013 Model:

I just had my first backpacking trip on the AT. After 3 days hiking 37 miles I cant imagine not having these poles on my adventure. They worked flawlessly and were a tremendous help as well as a great tent pole. I look forward to many more miles with them in the years ahead.

Comments about Black Diamond Alpine Carbon Cork Poles (pair) - 2013 Model:

Another quality BD product. Purchased for cork handles and extended grip for uphill climbs. Have used other brands of poles in the past but prefer this adjustment system, just makes it easier especially with gloves/mitts on in colder weather. Not the lightest poles but ounces of difference not significant from other poles used. Would purchase again.

Comments about Black Diamond Alpine Carbon Cork Poles (pair) - 2013 Model:

After an absence from backpacking I needed to resupply from scratch and these poles ended up on my list. I purchased these based on reviews and by their weight.
My first outing with these was a winter trip along the "roller coaster" section of the AT carrying 35-40 lbs. This section of the trail can get fairly steep at times and is very rocky. As a result, the only time these poles were strapped to my pack was at night so they got a pretty good work out and I think I can accurately evaluate their performance.
First off, they were very light. Specs. say they come in at 1 lb. which seems accurate but I didn't put them on a scale. The cork provided a secure grip and I'm sure in the summer I'll appreciate them even more. The extended grip section was more durable and rugged in person than it appears in photos and was extremely helpful when going up steep, rocky sections of the trail with a heavy pack. Wouldn't buy poles in the future that didn't have this feature as a result of using these.
Wrist straps are top notch as well and seemed ergonomically designed to fit right and left hand specifically. A feature I didn't see mentioned anywhere.
The carbon fiber seems to absorb shock well. This section of the trail is very rocky so the poles were coming down on rock constantly, and I mean constantly, and I never got the feeling of unpleasant vibration from them.
They also seem to lock in place very well and I experienced no level of slippage. Being new, I would always check them at the end of the day to see if they were at the same level as I had set them. Needless to say, they were. I weigh around 165 and was carrying around 40 lbs. and several times I stumbled and put all my weight on them and they held tight with no slippage.
I can't find anything negative to say about these poles. Great poles and great service from Sunny's.
