I have been wearing these as a field gaiter to work my dogs in the wet grass and lite woods. So far so good. They are not bulky at all and since I am short the fit is great. If you had long legs they might not be high enough.

Wore these daily on a week long trek thru Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior. It rained every day so these were a blessing to have. Held up great to all the wet/muddy conditions, feet and legs stayed dry, did not overheat. This was a purchase well worth it. A little pricey, but this is one of those that "you get what you pay for". Definitely a item of need for any hiker. Only problem I encountered was the fit. I ordered by shoe size (I'm a women 9.5), so I ordered a Lg. This was too big so I exchanged for a Med. These work, but still a bit large in the calf part. I will keep them and deal with the little bagginess.

REI had these for about $12 more even when factoring in shipping costs. they only had them in blue at REI, and i wanted them in black. tried them on at the store to get the right size using the shoes/boots i would be wearing to avoid exchanging. OR makes great quality gear - i own several pieces. these gaiters were my pick for the best quality/durability at a reasonable price. i was a touch disappointed that there was an "OR" logo instead of the cute flower like shown in the pic, but not a big deal. i used them first with snowboarding pants that were a bit bulky, so they were snug, but still good. they work best for me with a few thinner layers. my feet were warm and dry without getting all sweaty. they kept the snow out of my shoes and can be worn with jeans on snowy walks to keep your legs dry. very pleased with the purchase. :)

I am living in Connecticut only for the winter months, December-March. We have had record breaking snow with no warm weather to provide melt off between storms. Just getting to the mailbox, or to the bird feeders, or to my car to clean it off has required the use of these gaiters. Before they arrived, even my highest winter boots resulted in snow-dampened feet and jeans.
