Shopper I like backpacking. And I'm about packing light. If I were to go backpacking in Lake Tahoe for the weekend, could I replace my backpacking tent with this bivy?
REX I That's the general idea, yes. It's common to use a bivy with a tarp, I have a UL spinn tarp 9x9 although you could go smaller. This bivy and my tarp each weigh about a pound. That's a pretty good weight savings over a tent for a solo hiker. I've recently purchased this bivy (North Face Simple Bivy) but have not yet used it. It seems to be well constructed and light. I like the simple design, there's a layer of mesh at the head and shoulders (which can be zipped open or closed) and another outter waterproof layer that can be closed up over the mesh in wet weather.
DANIEL C I have not used my TNF Bivy yet but believe the answe would be yes. I will use in the next month on a section hike of the PCT in SoCal. Would like to use for a thru-hike if all works out.
