Comments about Gregory Miwok 22 Pack:

i bought this pack to replace a stolen one that i had had for 10 years: CamelBak Isis (approx. 20L), original version. i was looking for a specific feature set:

- large Nalgene fits in side pocket(s) for when i don't have/want the hydration bladder.
- 15.6" laptop fits with towel, workout clothing, tennis shoes.
- hydration compatible. no bladder with this pack, but that was perfect for me as i still had the one from the stolen pack.
- small zippered pockets on top and front that are not setup for a school bag (pen slots, etc.).
- sternum strap, hip belt.

i bought the Maya 18 (18 L) originally and was so happy to finally find a replacement pack that had the features i was looking for, but alas, my laptop would NOT fit. :( i ride my bicycle to work, and sometimes need to transport my laptop that way. i wanted a versatile pack that i could use for everyday, work, gym, and also long hikes. Osprey almost had it with the Raptor series, but the feature set would change when you went up in pack volume, so they failed me. too bad, the magnetic mouthpiece was a really awesome feature...

i ended up with the Miwok 22 (22 L), which is the "Men's" pack. the "Women's" version is the Maya 22, but i found the Miwok much cheaper online. i was very thorough looking over the Maya 18 and the Miwok 18 when i bought the Maya, and could tell no difference between the male and female versions... maybe the sternum strap is longer, for 'the ladies' ;), on the female one. who knows.

i really like that there are zippered pockets on the hip belt. kangaroo pouch with expansion zippers is sweet. there is a small reflective strap at the base of the back of the pack for a flashing bicycle light. the fabric of the pack seems thin, but has held up so far (1 month). it is not my Isis, but the feature set is solid. there are even a couple of nice mesh pockets on the inside of the main compartment. i only have a couple of small complaints. first, there are 2 elastic cords inside the main compartment on either side of the pack that can catch on things when trying to load the pack. second, the compression straps at the top of the pack block the main compartment zipper when they are clipped. so far not much of a bother. i just un-clip them normally and let the straps hang; i will have to get a couple safety pins or something to wind up the slack when they are not in use. almost all of the other adjustable straps on the pack have a little elastic band for containing the excess strap. i would have transposed the clip ends on them (male and female ends) so that you could have easily clipped them out of the way, but i don't design packs for Gregory. ;)
