Comments about Eureka Kelty Recluse 3.0i - Insulated Air Mat:

We bought these mattresses for llama packing. They will be used under Thermarest Trail Lite pads for extra insulation and cushioning. The Recluse is very well made and should hold up for many years. I deducted 1 star for the built-in air pump. Its quite slow and whether it's better than the lungs is questionable. We use a battery operating pump instead but that's too heavy if you plan to use this backpacking. The instructions with the pump are unclear. They show how to hold your hands on it but they fail to mention that the ball of one hand must cover the air intake valve. Supposedly it will close when you squeeze but I found that about half the air blows up my sleeve instead of into the mattress. Putting my hand over the valve solved that problem. They say it will take about 100 pumps to fill it. Well, maybe.
