Shopper Hi, Does the aluminum frame feel weird in a daypack? I am concerned it will be too stiff and not conform to my back. Also, I am getting it for hiking and just daily carrying stuff. Any thoughts?
SHAWN B The aluminum frame is like a wire on the outside edges of the pack, BACKPACKER magazine April 2010 called the Nitro the most comfortable day pack. The suspension of this pack is also great and has no problem with a big load,I tried many packs and the Nitro is very impressive.I use it for traveling and hiking and love it.
KEVIN S There is no frame in this pack and it is extremely comfortable.
RICHARD A I personally don't find the frame odd feeling, it isn't a very heavy gauge so it still has give to it. Also the frame can be taken out fairly easily so if it was a problem it could be removed to make the pack more comfortable for you. Hope this helps.
JOHN B I have several packs of assorted sizes, this is the most comfortable. It conforms to my back well while allowing excellent freedom of movement.
RICHARD T This is a great pack. It has the volume (24 L) I was looking for but at 980 g it does not have a lot of weight. I live in CO and spend a lot of time in the mountains. Depending on the season or the focus of the trip I use several different packs. I use the BD Nitro on fall or spring 14ers, when a tad more gear is necessary. During these seasons I carry at least a 2 L hydration bladder and sometimes 3 L. With the rest of the stuff I carry the reACTIV? suspension system is a welcome feature. You will never experience any stiffness or discomfort with this pack. I also appreciate the narrow profile which makes the Nitro really nimble. I tried to include a link to a youtube video of me with this pack but the Sunny Sports site would not allow the link to be included in this message. If you?d like to see this pack in action, you can view the video if you search for PIKES PEAK Y-COULOIR on youtube. I am wearing a red & gray softshell and my Nitro color is called Red Clay and it looks kind-of orange.
DENNIS C I've had this pack for awhile and have used it from zoo trips with the family to fully loaded day hikes. If you just need something to pack a couple sweaters and a sandwich, then any pack will do. You will notice some stiffness with a light load but it's not discomforting. If you want to carry any significant weight comfortably, this pack is a joy. So if you need something for both situations, it's the latter that matters. I've also found the outside pocket with the cinch straps much more useful than I anticipated. Bottom line...highly recommended, especially at current pricing.
JAMIE S Personally, no. I have no problem with the frame in the pack. I use this pack for everything from hiking to carrying books in for school, and the frame doesn't feel awkward at all to me. Best day pack I've bought
