Comments about Black Diamond Distance Poles (pair):

For me trekking poles are not optional. They are insurance that I can get home, injured or otherwise. Haveing a set of poles this light and compact is awesome. No reason to ever leave them behind.

The simple design is what I really like about these poles. Deploys in seconds. The lack of length adjustment is actually a welcome change. Unless you share your poles with others there really no need to have adjustability....you don't use it. So instead of fussing with cam or twist locks, a quick pull and snap....you're ready to rock.

I own a pair Leki and BD Compacts. Both great pole although I much prefer the BD lever lock system (try dealing with twist locks with cold or injured hands.....not easy). I wasn't sure about the strength of the Z's compare to Compacts but so far they seem plenty strong. I've leaned into them on descents and they are very stable. In fact, it's nice knowing the length won't change since there's nothing to slip.

The lack of a snow basket attachment is a bit of bummer but I can think of several ways to rig something that will work. It is of course outside its intended use so do at your risk. I personnally trust these enough to push the limits a little.

Comments about Black Diamond Distance Poles (pair):

collapsable and lightweight. No problems on Mt. Yale or Chicago Basin, CO, July/August 2012. Performed as advertised.
I would recommend. Good trade-off between flip-lock and carbon fiber poles (price-weight compromise).

Noticeably much lighter than other trekking poles. They have extra long grips because they're not adjustable.
