Shopper Will these snowshoes be good for backcountry snowshoeing?
KATHLEEN S YES, THESE SNOW SHOES ARE GREAT. I BOUGHT 2 PAIRS 1 PAIR FOR ME AND 1 FOR MY ADULT SON. HE HAD NEVER SNOW SHOED BEFORE. EASY ON AND OFF, STURDY. THE TRAVEL CASE IS GREAT STORES EVERYTHING IN ONE CASE EASY FOR PACKING.
BRIGID H These snowshoes are awesome for backcountry, as well as less intense terrain. My husband and I bought these snowshoes two years ago (we're pretty active 50 & 60 year olds) and have used them quite a lot. We have mountainous property in WV that we've trekked all over in these snowshoes and they have exceeded our expectations. We've also used them to get around the yard when we had huge snows last year in Virginia, and the year before when there was a lot of ice.....the crampons are extremely reliable in icy conditions. The straps are very durable and secure boots in nicely. The bag is a plus in keeping sharp crampons stowed away from other gear, and easily stows the poles as well. I'm not big on using the poles, but my husband loves them. I love the path that the snowshoes make in the snow (kind of a geek), and the feel of walking on air. We've used them in light powdery snow, deep heavy snow, and very icy conditions....and have been satisfied everytime we put them on. We researched quite a bit before our purchase, and felt like Atlas was the brand to buy. We CANNOT wait for the first snow this season to use them! Hope this helps....
STEVEN J Yes. They were very easy to attach to my boots and easy to maneuver through deeper snow.

JAMES G These snowshoes are the best! My wife and I did quite a bit of deep woods snowshoeing last winter. Light weight, comfortable and easy to put on and take off.

NANCY T I thought they were great in back country. I love them.
JOSHUA S Yes, they're fine for backcountry if your boots fit in them. If you have really big boots or want a handier binding, the Atlas 10 series. If you'll be going up and down steeper terrain, look for the 11 or 12 series, which come with a heel riser bar for ascents.
RANDY J Yes - the these snowshoes are good for backcountry snowshoeing. The way they are designed the back "tail or deck" doesn't drag on the ground when you lift your foot but lifts up, making it easy to move around on uneven terrain. Because the back flips up; make sure you have gators or snow pants on as the snow from the back deck flips up and hits the back of your legs. For me having the snow fly up onto your legs is a minor inconvenience as it is worth the ability to move almost as if you did not have snowshoes on at all.
The manufacturer says "Free-Rotating Suspension allows for natural articulation of the foot over uneven and sidehill terrain." and in my opinion this is accurate.

CAROL B These are easy to use and lightweight. It is the first pair we've owned and they worked well for us in very deep snow. Make sure you are in the weight range for this model.
