Great piece of gear! I can fit my stove, pump, repair kit, heat shield, matches and coffee mug (mug has coffee/whitener & sponge in it) in my pot set. Along with being compact, this stove is easy to light, quiet and well built.

Well, I'm on year 29 with mine Yikes! Once I ask a cab driver in Mexico on a volcano climbing trip to stop at a gas station so we could get fuel That was 1995 I just used it for three days this week on the lakeshore trail into stehekin WA That's 2024 Still works great!

This is an outstanding liquid fuel stove for year-round use. I use it primarily in winter and it rarely lets me down. Lightweight, robust, reliable, and simple to light are important features that matter to me. Thus far, I have only used it with white gas and cannot comment on its use with other fuels. The pump is easy to maintain as well. Since I use it in winter, I carry the Standard and Arctic pump on all remote trips. Depending on the temperature, I have to switch them regularly so it would be preferrable if one pump worked well in all temperatures.

Very nice stove, has good legs with wide base and grippy toothed tops to legs. Heat output excellent. A bit tricky to simmer but let pressure in tank wane then after running stove a bit, turn it right off then open it up a crack at a time for low wavering flame. Worked fine with shellite from Bunnings in AU, same as Coleman, camping or naphtha.

The Whisperlite Internationale is a true friend amongst all the gear I've used and abused over the past 40+ years. Reliable, efficient, quiet and light. MSR really sniped the top corner with this design. Good conversation happens during meal prep, but only if we can hear each other. I've cooked meals for small groups and as a solo traveller. I've used it on different fuels and at altitude. >6000m Granted, this stove has some slight idiosyncrasies around use, but with care you'll get years of reliable meals. Some folks say the Whisperlite doesn't simmer well. If the fuel bottle has very low pressure, the stove simmers perfectly for use with a Bemko or Outback oven. Field maintenance is very straightforward. Never an empty cartridge to deal with.

I have used my the WhisperLite International for something like 20 years! From bicycle ?? camping ?? trips to Florida hurricanes ?? I used it for about three weeks straight when hurricane Charlie took out the power. About the only thing I have done to the stove is clean it maybe ?? every year or so and I think ?? the only problem I have had was I had to replace one little O-ring! That reminds me I have to replace the O-ring that I removed from the little service kit. I recommend that service kit I replaced that O-ring at night during a hurricane ?? power outage and all those O-Rings are special and your not going to find one when you roll into a campground at 02:00 ?? AM in the rain :cloud_with_rain: on your bicycle ?? and all you want to do is get something to eat and go to sleep ?? But if the stove needs an O-ring it is going to be cold Mountain House Chicken ?? Teriyaki ?? and a cold breakfast ?? So you need to get the service kit at least for peace of mind!

This stove is solid! I bought it to replace my 30 year old WhisperLite stove. No more empty fuel canisters to try and recycle and the cost of fuel is much lower. Yes my original WhisperLite stove still operates fine, just went with a more modern design. I cold weather camp and you can?t beat a white gas stove in the cold.

This is my favorite stove. I use in Africa every year to cook and sterile medical instruments. These stoves are the only stove that can be completly disassembled and cleaned in the field with min effort.

It packs up well, has done well up a few mountains so far. Should have bought the 32oz canister instead of the twenty. Has been reliable so far!

I used this stove on a NOLS course for 3 months and it was fantastic. I was lucky enough to get a brand new one at a garage sale for $40! The gas dries out the plastic and rubber, easy to fix and replace!

product works great. the major flaws are when the stove is disassembled. 1) removing pump is incredibly difficult and safety goggles should be worn because gas can splash on face. also gloves should be worn because gas always gets on hands. 2) there is a small amount of gas that is stored on gas line, so when the tube is removed, about a 20 drops of gas spills all over the place. Literally, now, i disassembled the stove and let everything air out for about 20 minutes so gas can evaporate. 3) braided gas line is too rigid causing the stove base to never sit flat without something on it. Design improvements are necessary. 1) make canister have a screw on pump that stays on most of the time and add an additional cap that is for filling fuel. 2) Use a check valve in hose that supplies gas to stove, so fuel doesn't spill everywhere when disassembled. 3) don't use braided brass for gas line, it looks cool but too rigid. make these adjustments and this would be a stellar stove.

When backpacking in deep apline snow, your only source of water may come from melting snow with a stove. This is a stove that doesn't fail.

Exactly as described. Well-built and easy to use. It is hard to adjust the temperature once you're cooking (e.g. simmer something), but that was expected. Thanks MSR!

I use this stove probably once a week, on a regular bases, on my camping and backpacking trips, I love how you can choose how much fuel you want to bring, and how hot it gets, unlike my pocket rocket 2. my dad has had his since he was a senior and, and I just bought mine a couple weeks ago and love it.

It's a really fine stove. I use it for camping/backpacking. In any kind of wind it does need the windscreen, which is to be expected. It doesn't fit into my pot so I have to be real careful in stowing it in a crowded pack - also to be expected. I'm really happy with this product.

After 30 years it was time to retire my original MSR whisperlite, and after some debate I chose the latest version of my beloved stove that has travelled the world. I couldn't be happier, especially when I went to the local backpacking supply store to find that iso fuel canisters for pocket rockets, etc are sold out for ""months"". Thanks COVID. No problem with the Whisperlite international! You can get fuel for this anywhere, under almost any circumstances. Don't sweat the boil time comparisons with other stoves- this bad boy is plenty fast, especially with the windscreen up. I have made it a point to teach my kids how to run a Whisperlite, which I now consider to be an essential life skill.

I've always used a biolite stove for all my camping excursions thus far, it has a fairly mild learning curve on how to use and regulate it, but this thing is easy! To be fair I've only had it for a couple months now and have only used it a few times, but it stores well and is very easily maintained. Maintenance is pretty much zero for now, just scraping off some carbon build up really. The shaker jets keep everything running pretty smooth, it's a nice little system. I didn't read anywhere that this had a purging system like the optimus polaris where when you flip the gas bottle over it stops taking in gas and evacuates the pressure inside it. That was a HUGE plus for me to find that out since I thought only the polaris had that function (since they actually advertise it), but then again I'm not super knowledgeable on these pump gas stoves as this is the first one I've owned myself... My only complaint would be that it is a little easy to spill the gas out of the priming cup and the ability to adjust the flame is pretty limited. Other than those minor issues, I'd say this purchase is a win for now! Another very good selling point is that I've read many other reviews of these things lasting a very long time; think like many years with normal maintenance. The only thing that really needs replacing is the pump since it is a lot of plastic and rubber (which I don't mind since it does still feel somewhat robust, I would just prefer at least a metal push rod). This stove will definitely be replacing my biolite for the time being, but I'm not sure if it will replace it indefinitely since I won't always have access to liquid gasses if I'm out for extended periods of time backpacking.

Stove works well, but the pump i received with it was faulty and leaked fuel even with the valve completely shut. It forced me to blow out the flame and remove the fuelline from pump in order to shut it off. This wasted a lot of fuel on my first trip with it and it almost became an issue

just thought i'd let other MSR users that i bought this stove back in 1989 when i got into backpacking. i was 17 back then and to me, this was a big deal as it was expensive for a teenage student. it's been working flawlessly ever since, provided one puts a little effort into it, as i did change some gaskets on the pump as they had dried out. BUT, they are readily available new even today, MSR should get the recongnition they deserve for the timeless design and compability.

I have the old version of this stove which has served me without fail for 15+ years. The stove has been used internationally extreme heat and cold with different fuels. Also, it is very low maintenance, the fuel usage surprisingly efficient, and has never failed to function in rain or snow. I will upgrade to the newer model when this one fails, but that will require a tank to roll over my current model.

Legs don't lock into position when stove is set up like the older models did. I dislike this. Makes the unit more like a water boiler and less like a all around stove. But still, quality stove. Also, included tool has no hex wrench for stove burner nut. But the old unit had no phillips head so the missing hex is not a downgrade. Honestly I'd prefer to be able to buy the international with locking legs. Might return and go for the white gas only model. Is a tough call.

You can never go wrong with MSR WhisperLite International. It is proven to last. Excellent in Winter high altitude use and for Summer use. Light weight, packs small inside my small pot. Durable. I have 2 now to use on winter guided mountaineering/backpacking trips. Thank you MSR for making such incredible cooking gear.

I bought my current WhisperLite International in 2004. It's averaged 15 days/yr of backcountry use since then. I used a different WhisperLite International for 3 months in Patagonia burning Kerosene the whole time. I never conducted any maintenance or cleaning of my stove, and it performed flawlessly for 15 years. You absolutely should do annual maintanence, but the fact it performed great for 15 years without it is a testament to the true reliability of the stove. It finally failed on me this year, on a winter expedition morning far below freezing, when it failed to hold pressure. I bought the maintenance kit, cleaned out the lines and replaced o-rings, and it is good as new, looking ready for another 15 years. I've bought the stove as gifts for those friends who spend time in the backcountry and always recommend them. They're durable, reliable, and are the only stove I use whether in the desert or on top of a mountain.
