Instructions to set your own combination were a little hard to follow. The direction to turn was the reverse of what really seemed to work.

Finally did find the answer in the reviews here, only I found you rotate the shackle a quarter turn (90 degrees, not 180 as listed below). To repeat directions: set to 0,0,0, unlock and swing shackle 90 degrees and press down hard (the shackle will give a little when in the correct position). While pressing down, set your desired combination. This resets the lock.

Set to 0-0-0. Pull out shackle. Rotate 180 degrees and press down hard. While holding the shackle down firmly, change numbers to the combo you want. Release shackle and lock is now set to your personal combination.

This is an excellent product with important features regarding storage compartments and security. The large clothes bags I added are perfect for keeping the clothes fresh and unwrinkled. I used the rolling bag strictly for clothes so it would sail through customs and security and put the other travel items in the backpack, so everything that needed inspection was all in one place and easy to see. The sole drawback is the expansion feature on the handle, which kept extending while I rolled along whenever I had to briefly lift the bag up. This is the only reason I gave the bag less than 5 stars. I started folding the handle down and used the top strap handle to lift the bag over curbs, on escalators etc. and that solved the problem.

This is a TSA so keep that in mind. I own about 5 of the key version of this lock and I can tell you this lock is more sturdy. I also find the combo version more convenient.

Works very well. Easy to change the code (works just like every other lock out there). Very stylish. Easy to read the numbers. I have 5 (yes FIVE) for my back pack. I can lock each compartment.

Once you get past not having directions in the box, not being able to actually click on link in the website to GET the directions and finally find the right ones online that tell you to turn the shackle 180 degrees and NOT 90 degrees AND hold down the shackle firmly while changing your numbers it will work. Should not have to fight SO HARD to just use a lock in the first place. So to summarize? 1. SET TO 000 2. TURN SHACKLE 180 DEGREES 3. HOLD SHACKLE DOWN FIRMLY 4. CHANGE COMBO TO LINE UP WITH MARKINGS KEEPING SHACKLE HELD DOWN THE ENTIRE TIME 5. LIFT SHACKLE AND TURN BACK TO ORIGINAL POSITION. 6. YOU'RE DONE. Hope this saves others the frustration I had. I am using these locks to secure the zippers on my carryon luggage, and they work exactly as I would expect then to do. They are simple to use and are straightforward in application. These are excellent locks and I would recommend to anyone.

The majority of the complaints were on the difficulty of releasing the shackle after an attempt to change the code fails. I was almost ready to add my complaint, after checking the internet for any information on how to reset and release the shackle. Putting together some info I got, I pushed down the shackle while turning the number wheels. At first this was difficult, but continuous effort paid off and I got all 3 number wheels turning freely and smoothly. I pulled on the shackle and it came free. Job done.

The product appears to be a good one but... I made an error while trying to reset the combination on this lock. Clearly, it was MY error. I contacted online chat. He quoted me the same instructions on the package. When I said that was what I was doing when I locked it in the open posteion. He suggested: "Visit your local TSA agent to have it unlocked" REALLY???

I will never use another lock. This is the best. Yes, TSA often takes it off and does not replace it, or opens it without locking it, and if I'm lucky, it arrives hanging open on the zipper. This happens most often flying out of Seattle, which I do very often. I write a note and place it in my suitcase asking TSA, nicely, to re-lock my lock if they open my suitcase. I also travel with an extra lock in case of loss by TSA.
