It is worth twice the cost.

I really don't understand how someone couldn't love this tent. It stands up to some serious weather, has a giant vestibule for your gear, is massive inside, and is dirt cheap. I just camped out on a windy 14-degree (F night, and I was comfortable and confident in my tent. If it had aluminum poles, it would be the world's best tent (but then it wouldn't be as inexpensive either...). Just a great tent.

10 years after purchase - still going strong

Purchased this tent in September of 2009 and as of writing this in October 2019, am resting comfortably with my three young kiddos on a camping trip. We have broken a few poles and torn a few holes along the way but the tent has kept us dry in a snow storm in Washington, rain storms in Hawaii, and winds and rains in Kansas. My nine and seven year old can just about set it up themselves. I have several more expensive tents but the Hooligan 4 is my go-to for family outings. And as for snow, the high degree of ventilation made for a cold if near condensation free trip.

Tough Tent

I use this tent for Airventure every year. I got it because of the large rain fly and I have not gotten wet once while using it; and there is always at least one big storm during Airventure! There are so many places to stake this tent down it won’t go anywhere in the wind. The dome style makes it flexible too so I find it’s less likely to break in the wind. The vestibule is handy for storing boots and camp chairs—or even an extra buddy, which leaves more space in the actual tent for beds and bags. I use the tent for myself only but it is still comfortable with two people. It can fit two twin size air mattresses and two full size suitcases. It can fit even more if you pack lighter than I do. At 5’6”, this tent is also tall enough to stand in, which is a great plus for me. All in all, I do recommend this tent. The only con I can think of is the tent does get fairly hot in the sun, but if I leave the vent and the rainfly door open, it’s perfect. At night, it’s breathable but can stay warm all buttoned up.

Great summer tent!

This is a great tent for summer, especially for rainy weather. The huge vestibule is big enough to store our boots and helmets snd to get dressed in when it's raining. All-mesh inside is a bit chilly in the spring when its windy but overall a good value for tbe price.

Good value

Worked great, rainfly has good coverage, only complaint was the shock cord on one of the poles was broken right out of the box so I had to repair it.

affordable and durable!

simply the best option for backpacking in a large group, definitely this is something a single person can carry while others can avoid carrying when someone is carrying a 4 person tent

Long lasting

This tent has kept us cozy & dry during the worst weather! Even the vestibule area is nice because it protected our gear keeping things dry as well!

Great concept, but poor execution of design

We needed a tent with a foyer so we can tent with our crate-trained dog. Thought this was the perfect tent. However, after only one previous camping trip, the zipper on the fly began skipping. We thought our attempt at self-healing the zipper worked, but when the wind kicked up the zipper failed. Not good, as the interior tent is primarily screen. That's great when the skies are clear. However, we found ourselves in blowing rain. The flap proved totally worthless as protection because the zipper pull just ran along the track and where it was positioned was the only place the flap held. Personal experience in upholstery suggests that the problem is with the sharp corner the zipper has to take at the top. This design would have been much better if the zipper went from the bottom straight up to the seam where the rainfly support pole is positioned. We owned a Coleman tent 12 years ago that was designed this way, and it never gave us trouble once. Otherwise, we love this tent. We were able to pin in some velcro pieces to keep the flap closed, and that kept the rain from blowing in. The screen is great because we've never had trouble with condensation, even camping where the temperatures dropped to 30F. Obviously, we need warmer sleeping bags to compensate for the better air flow, yet that's a small price to pay for staying dry. Our last trip saw several days and nights of heavy rain. Fortunately, someone was in the tent when the exterior fly failed, and quick action kept the interior dry. After pinning in the velcro, we had another heavy rain/hail shower. The rainfly did its job, and we stayed dry. Honestly, if the fly zipper hadn't failed, I'd be giving this tent 5 stars. BTW, this tent sleeps 3 very comfortably, with room for bags along the sides.

Durable and easy set up

This is great, it gives you sun and weather protection but at a moment's notice you're able to let the breeze comfort you. Great mud room and small storage entrance.

Good bang for the buck

I haven't used it yet, but I set it up once to check it out. Seems like a pretty solid tent for the price, the vestibule is good sized, and the rainfly covers the entire tent. One pole came with the shock cord broken but it was long enough that I was able to repair it.

100% rain protection

My family loves this tent! Very spacious for the four of us. Kept us dry in a severe down pour. Also love the extended room to store things we need to protect from the elements!

Excellent tent

This little tent is perfect. Our scouts put it up in a minutes. The vestibule is perfect size to keep shoes and backpacks which allow for more space in the tent. The vent option keeps the tent cool. The bathtub base is very deep for the drenching rain we encountered. Plus the tarp like bottom was so think we stayed dry.

Great Tent

This is a fantastic tent, especially for the money. I have taken it to the Adirondacks on about 5 different occasions. The weather can be brutal. On our last trip we had 3 days of soaking rain. Not a drop of water made it into the tent. We didn't even use a tarp. Storage is great. The vestibule is HUGE. It fits 2 adults or 1 adult and 2 kids. I just wish it wasn't orange. It gets awfully bright inside once the sun is up. I would buy again in a heartbeat.

The full rain fly is the best thing this tent has. The vestibule is very handy and spacious as well. Good construction throughout. Great value.

I would buy more

I bought 5 for my Boy Scout Troop that gives us 7 now. I have 2 myself, the 3 man & the 4 man, along with other 3 adult in the troop. Great to put 3 boys in & still have room. Take a little time to set up if your by yourself, if you have a buddy then it's not bad. Just have to make sure the boys put all the stakes in. We've been in some good down pour and they weathered the storm as they should.

good tent for the price

I use this tent primarily as a guest tent. I have three, and they're awesome for 3 season camping. However, they are quite heavy, and I recommend outsourcing some higher quality poles. These poles are very flimsy in comparison to my Kelty's poles. First time setup is a bit of a pain, but becomes significantly easier to setup the more frequently you use it. My guests all love the wide open feel of the tent without the fly, and it keeps them dry and warm in the winter.

Good car camping tent

Overall I am happy with this tent. It does take lots of stakes to properly set it up. But it also offers lots of guy lines to use if it's a windy day. We liked this tent for its basic size. One complaint about it is that there is no gear loft for the ceiling nor is there a loop to hang anything from the ceiling like a light. Another complaint is that the doorway/vestibule is short and difficult to use for a taller camper like myself. This is definitely a car camping or tent to use where you don't have to carry it very far. I used this on a single portage canoeing trip with my wife. We had a big time rain day and it kept us dry. The floor kept us dry despite not having a ground pad inside or outside the tent. However, I did seam seal this tent prior to use. For its price and decent size I can recommend it.

Good for price

Endured torrential downpour w/o issue. No seam leaks. Takes a while to setup, lots of required tent stakes! Good for car camping. Good price for occasional family campers.
