Bought this as a day pack for my wife for skiing. She absolutely loves it! We now use it for hiking as well. This is a heck of a deal, go look up how expensive this pack is on Camelbak's website.

First, my background. I am a retired law enforcement officer and infantry officer who has done a lot of "Humping a pack" over almost every type of terrain you can imagine. What I wanted was a pack that met my basic requirement of being able to carry what I believe to be the "10 essentials" in any climate and give me about 72-96 hours of survival time. My first rule is that it must be comfortable to wear. This pack is. My second rule is that if you go out of sight of your vehicle you wear it. I've done too many searches for people that were only going "a short distance", got lost, and had nothing with them. No one ever sets out to get lost so always be prepared if you get lost. I like the ability to expand the back slightly based on the season. I wanted one pack that I could use year round for short trips and this one seems to work for that. The 3 way zipper on the back concerned me as I thought it might leak, but after about 5 miles on snow shoes in heavy snow with the rain cover on there was no problem. I like the multiple smaller pockets on the top for a stove, snacks, and other easily accessible necessary items. The covered hydration hose worked well at about 18 degrees F. Overall, this is a good pack for the price. It might be nice to have rain covers in multiple colors (brown, red, camo, and black) in addition to yellow.

This item surpassed my expectation of it. It hold enough water and has enough space to put a change of clothes and/or other stuff. Its compact and can extend to fit a lot of things.

I can't imagine hitting the slopes without my Camelbak now. Staying hydrated at high altitudes is crucial and the Camelbak gets it done and done well. There's enough room in here for the kitchen sink, but blends seamlessly with gear. I don't even know it's there. It's so light weight and the hose and nozzle assembly is perfect. I wouldn't head out for a day of skiing without it now.

This little pack is great for day hikes or a day on the slopes. It holds the perfect amount: water, snacks, shoes and an extra layer, and it's structured enough that it doesn't collapse with weight.
